Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the late State Senator Charles J. Colgan who passed away January 3, 2017. Senator Colgan represented Prince William County for 40 years but his 90 years were full of service for others. For nearly 20 years, Transitional Housing BARN has been able provide housing and supportive services with the support of Senator Colgan and his late wife, Agnes who was passionate about helping homeless families.

Senator Colgan named Transitional Housing BARN as one of two charities for people to donate to in his memory. Even now, with your donations to either organization, Senator Colgan is still serving. What an amazing legacy! Donate Now

“Senator Colgan and his family have been long time supporters of BARN.  Two major annual BARN fundraisers; our Senator Colgan spring golf tournament and our fall Festival of Trees in memory of Mrs. Agnes Colgan, have been indicators of this close connection for many years.  All of us at BARN join in offering our sincerest condolences to the Colgan family at this time of their great loss and of deep loss to us all.”

Ed Spall, President, BARN Board of Directors

“Senator Colgan and his first wife, Agnes, were the first and foremost  supporters of BARN, from its founding. Because of their involvement, we instituted the Agnes Colgan award which is given out every year to a major supporter.  We are most grateful to Senator Colgan for helping us get BARN started and for championing it for the past 20 years.”

“I have great memories of Senator Colgan’s support for BARN’s Golf Tournament; not only did he lend his name to the event, he was a gracious host.  He greeted the golfers at check-in and honored them by giving out the awards at the end of the tournament.  BARN was fortunate to have him as a friend.”

Diane Bennett, BARN Board of Directors

“I was fortunate to meet Senator Colgan during his later years. I was immediately aware of his level of commitment and love for BARN.  As a Board member I appreciated his good nature and kindness whether it was at our Golf outing or Festival of Trees. Senator had the innate ability to make the staff, volunteers and donors feel appreciated. In his political life he truly earned the title of Statesman.  Charlie and I extend our deepest condolences to his family. May God rest his soul.”
